The Historic West Bottoms Association hosted a KCBS-sanctioned backyard barbecue on May 15 and 16 in the Liberty Lot of the Stockyards District of the West Bottoms.

Fifteen teams competed across two one-meat ribs contests for a combined $2,000 in prize money.
The evening also featured the Best Pulled Pork in the West Bottoms People's Choice slider competition.
May 16, 2026
Sixteen teams competed in the main backyard contest, smoking chicken and ribs for official KCBS judging.
KCBS reps Clara Williams and Jonathan B. Williams of Kansas City served the contest weekend.

The People's Choice pulled pork slider competition brought local restaurants together for bragging rights in the West Bottoms.

Friday evening was rounded out with a performance by Star Haven Rounders, a well-known local country and western band.
